Meet Registered Artist

Today we’d like to introduce you to Registered Artist.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
Specializing in pop art influenced by the likes of Roy Lichtenstein and Marvel comics, Registered Artist’s street art can be seen throughout most Miami area neighborhoods. RA is a voracious guerilla artist who puts his work on display through stencils, decals, wheat pastes, murals, and stickers both at home and throughout his travels worldwide. Yet Registered Artist finds the time to exhibit his art regularly in solo and group art shows in local galleries as well as in other parts of the world.

In November 2015, Registered Artist was honored to be the only Wynwood artist selected as one of twenty-five international artists for the Canvas Outdoor Museum Show in West Palm Beach, Florida. The artists during the two-week event created installations and murals throughout the city.

Finding a balance between the gallery and urban landscapes is important to Registered Artist who constantly gives back to his community any way he can. RA is the founder and director of Free Art Fridays for the Miami-Dade chapter as well as Broward County’s. These chapters are part of an international movement that makes art accessible to everyone. It conducts weekly free art scavenger hunts that is open to artists and art lovers alike.

Please tell us about your art.
My art style is very eclectic but if I had to categorize it I’ll called it urban popart. I am a stencil artist but I use many mediums to produce my artwork. Spraypaint, collage, acrylic, tempura, resin, just to name a few. There are times I playful hide serious topics about society or about my personal life. Often, I have no meaning behind what I’m painting I just like how it looks. The main thing I want my viewers to take from my work is that they feel something. A laugh, anger, sadness, happiness, being inspired to create or support the arts. As long as it evokes a thought or emotions then I did my job as an artist.

What do you think about conditions for artists today? Has life become easier or harder for artists in recent years? What can cities like ours do to encourage and help art and artists thrive?
I think life has become easier for artist many grow to be very successful in their career. In the past artist struggle in their lives to make a living. Over time it’s become easy to make a living of your work while still being alive. The city the artist lives has a lot to do with the success of the artist. Is the city supporting of the art? Is there local funding for community art projects? Is there a location artist can express themselves without fear of authority? These are questions that affect artist and things if the local city has in place will help artist make a living and grow in their careers.
