The company’s co-founder is Dr. Emily Stein (background in microbiology, immunology, and rheumatology) whose grandmother and best friend, almost died from a stroke caused by dental disease.
In Emily’s words: “As it turned out, my grandmother could no longer brush her own teeth, which caused underlying problems with tooth decay + gum disease. So, I went to work creating a prebiotic formula and added it to a mint that would stop my grandmother’s oral bacteria from causing more destruction and disease. Then, just 4-5 years later, I rescued a 10yr old Cocker Spaniel, Tinzley, who suffered from the same problem! *Worst breath ever* and within 48 hours of the time I rescued her, it became apparent her rampant oral infection had spread. They had to extract 21 teeth and I spent many thousands of dollars and gave her several months of antibiotics to save her life.

Preventative products, in general, take longer to gain traction in the market (fluoridated water had decades of data before it was adopted).
